Red Lake (Lacul Roșu) is located at the foothills of the Hășmaș Mountains, in the Eastern Carpathians, in the northeastern part of Harghita County. The most famous attraction of the resort is the legendary Red Lake, a natural dam lake with reddish water from which dead tree trunks emerge, backed by the impressive cliffs of the Small Cohard (Cohardul Mic). Location
Red Lake is situated in the Eastern Carpathians, in the Hășmaș Mountains, near the Bicaz River valley. The area is part of the Bicaz Gorge – Hășmaș National Park, featuring wild coniferous forests, steep limestone cliffs, and mountain streams. The distinctive feature of the landscape is the natural lake formed by a landslide in 1838, dense forests, and high white limestone walls.
