Corund village is one of the oldest settlements in the Székely Salt Region. Its name has Hun origins. It was considered a “land inhabited by fairies,” located between the legendary Firtos and Tartod mountains. In this stunning environment, mountain streams, diverse mineral springs, forests, scattered villages, and traditional homesteads offer visitors numerous tourist programs.
Corund – “the cradle of folk pottery”
The village is famous for its master potters, whose crafted goods have spread far and wide, for its home-based woodcraft industry, and for its entrepreneurial residents. Young and old alike practice this craft; along the roads, every house is a “living workshop,” displaying its handmade products at the gate.
Corund – “the land of the Székely gemstone”
Historical accounts marvel at the extraordinary cold saline spring deposits on Rakodó Hill. If plants or other objects are placed in this water, a crusted coating forms on them in a short time. The resulting material is the famous Corund aragonite, also known as the “Székely gemstone.”
Corund is one of the most representative villages in the Székely region of Harghita County, renowned for its craft traditions, painted furniture, and authentic Székely gates.
