Crișan is situated in the central part of the Danube Delta, along the Sulina Branch, one of the delta’s three main branches (Chilia, Sulina, and Sfântul Gheorghe). The village is 47 km from Tulcea and approximately 30 km from the Black Sea coast, where the Sulina Branch flows into the sea. The Danube Delta spans a total area of 4,152 km², with 3,446 km² in Romania, and its surface grows by about 40 m² annually due to the deposition of 67 million tons of sediment each year. The landscape around Crișan is dominated by reeds, lakes, channels, and sand dunes, forming one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved delta estuaries.
