Székelyudvarhely is the second largest city in Hargita County, Romania, and the historic and cultural center of the Székely (Hungarian) community. The city is located along the upper course of the Nagy-Küküllő (Târnava Mare) River in the Odorhei Basin, surrounded by forested hills, at an average altitude of 390–477 m above sea level. The city covers an area of 47.5 km² and has a population of approximately 31,300 inhabitants, the majority being ethnic Hungarians.
