General Overview
Colibița is a picturesque mountain resort located in Bistrița-Năsăud County, in northern Transylvania, Romania. The settlement belongs administratively to the commune of Bistrița Bârgăului and lies in the valley of the Bistrița River, between the Bârgău Mountains and the Călimani Mountains.
The main attraction of the area is Lake Colibița, a spectacular mountain reservoir often called the “Sea of the Mountains” due to its impressive scenery and size. The lake stretches for approximately 13 km and covers an area of around 270 hectares.
Colibița is situated at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level, and the area is renowned for its exceptionally clean air. During summer, average daytime temperatures range between 20–25 °C, while winter temperatures usually vary between −5 and −10 °C, making it a pleasant destination throughout the year.
Over the past decade, Colibița has become one of the most popular mountain destinations in Transylvania, attracting visitors seeking relaxation, nature experiences, and outdoor activities.
